The Greedy Merchant

complete the story There was once a merchant who lived only for money. Nothing else interested him. One day he and his son were crossing a forest when suddenly a tiger leaped out from a bush and seized the man. His son was a brave boy. Holding aloft an axe he had with him, he charged at the tiger and would have dealt it a massive blow had not his father stopped him.
“Don’t hit it with an axe!” screamed the man. “It’ll damage its skin and then we won’t get a good price for it! Hit it with a blunt instrument!”
The boy began to hunt around frantically for a heavy piece of wood or a stone. In the meantime...

He had set a trap to catch the tiger, under the tree under which the merchant's son was searching for a stone.The boy did not notice the trap and was trapped in it! At that moment the hunter entered the scene and saw what was happening. The hunter took them to the nearest hospital. The merchant's hand had to be cut of. He could not complain because he had brought it all to himself. If he had not stopped his son from killing the tiger with the axe, he would still had his hand.The merchant learnt a lesson not to be too greedy.

However the merchant's wrist was so badly damaged that doctors had to amputate it . The merchant's greed for the tiger's skin had cost him heavily and he realized that had if he had not stopped his son from axing the tiger at that crictical moment, he wouldn't have had to part with his hand which was one of the most important part of a person's body.

The tiger let him go with his wounded father but before letting him go,the tiger said,"If your father had not been so greedy for money and would not have thought of killing me, he would also had been safely leaving this place like you." Saying this the tiger left and the son realised and told his father one thing that one's life is more precious than money.

"SON YOU - I AM TALKING NOW LISTEN TO MEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Screamed the boy to his father at the top of his lungs. " FATHER THINK OF YOUR LIFE AND NOT THE MONEY! I DO LIKE MONEY BUT I WILL NOT RISK MY LIFE FOR MONEY!!!!!! You should think that father and stop acting like the village idiot." The merchant stood there for a minute. "Village idiot, life or money, my relationship with my son or lose it over money?" The merchant thought. "SON! I am sorry I yelled at you and didn't listen to you. will you forgive me?" " Yes I will." They hugged and walked back to the village. (if it was a village).

The tiger was amused that anyone could be so greedy that he would not value his life. Then the tiger took him to a giant cave filled with treasures. The merchant took all of them and never had to bother about wealth again - for the treasures in the cave were never - ending! All his life, the merchant was contented.

The tiger was amused. He said, "I was a wealthy greedy merchant like you. When God saw me he changed me to a tiger for my greed. Then I begged for mercy. God then told me that if I found a greedy man like myself, I could turn back into human and that man a tiger. And now I've found you!" The tiger then changed the merchant to a tiger and the tiger changed back to a man. God said from above, "Same for you tiger!!"

After sometime he came back with one plate of dal rice and gave it to tiger. Boy said,"Now leave my father." Tiger said,"No. I also want mango pickle." Boy again went to hotel and brought pickle and gave it to the tiger. Tiger ate the dal rice along with pickle and left the old man and went away. Father and the Son went to their home. Moral : Greedy father had to pay money for dal rice plate. Dont be greedy always.
