Head of the Family

Farah was the daughter of a successful grain merchant. She lived with her parents and three siblings in a palatial bungalow. Since she was the oldest child, Farah was her father’s favorite. She acted as her father’s assistant and helped him in his business dealings. In return he would pamper her with books, clothes and other goodies. Everything was going wonderfully well in Farah’s life. One day, however, tragedy struck.
Some invaders killed Raja Khan, the ruler of the kingdom, and took over the reins of the kingdom into their hands. The new ruler, Shehenshah, was very arrogant. He imprisoned and killed all the citizens who were loyal to Raja Khan. Farah’s father was among the unfortunate ones who lost their lives. Now Farah and her family were left without a provider. She knew how to carry on her father’s business successfully. The new king, however, had passed a decree forbidding women from working outside their homes.
If Farah obeyed the king’s orders and stayed at home, her father’s business would be ruined, and her family would starve. If she disobeyed the king, her life would be in danger. If anything happened to her, her uneducated, illiterate mother would never be able to take care of herself or her young children. As the new head of the family, Farah had to think up of a plan to get out of this sticky situation.

Then Farah thought of a solution. She decided to battle the king and take up the decision. At midnight she went to the nawab of that place and awoke him. She told the full story to him. The nawab was very kind-hearted and decided to help the poor girl. He took his soldiers and fought the new ruler and killed him. Shehenshah apologised and made Farah the new ruler.
