Once there lived a farmer in a small village in Kerala.
He had a turnip farm and one day he sent the servant out to gather all the ripe turnips.
The servant went into the field and started collecting ripe turnips.
To his surprise, he found he just could not pull out one particularly large turnip, despite all efforts.
The servant tried again and again, but could not succeed.
The man shouted for his master.
The master came running.
Together they started pulling the turnip out of the ground, but it was of no use.
So the farmer shouted for his wife.
His wife came running.
The three of them tried hard to pull it out. Again the turnip refused to budge!
The farmer's wife shouted for their son.
The son came running.
Together they tried hard to pull it out. No it is not coming out.
The son shouted for his wife.
The son's wife came running.
Now all the five started pulling with all their might.
A mouse came out of its hole to see what was happening.
Oh they were trying to pull out the largest turnip.
I should help them after all I am surviving on their corps. The mouse said to himself.
The mouse burrowed under the ground and soon reached near the turnip.
There were large roots holding the turnip.
If I cut the roots with my teeth, surely they can pull it out, thought the mouse.
So he started biting the roots one by one.
He was about to cut the last root and suddenly it happened!

As all the roots of the BIG TURNIP was cut except for one, the turnip was easy to be pulled. So when all the five pulled it together they fell down.

Since the turnip was loose now, they were able to pull the turnip and the rat attached to it. On seeing the rat, they thought that the rat was holding the other end and was able to stop them from pulling. They started to pray to the rat and feed him good food every day.

When the turnip got loose the rat was dead, because the turnip fell over him after he cut the roots. The farmer was happy and they became rich with the amount of money earned by selling this turnip. Also, they had a feast with this turnip.

Even the son's wife could not uproot the turnip, so she called their dog!, The dog pulled and pulled the turnip but he also failed to uproot the turnip as it was very very big. The dog called the cat and asked to pull the turnip but she also could not uproot the turnip, so the cat called the mouse and asked to see that turnip is uprooted otherwise the mouse would be eaten by the cat. The mouse was trembling by the order of the cat and by her threat. But the mouse was very intelligent as Lord Ganesh used to ride on him. The mouse went underground and all the roots were eaten by the mouse and the turnip came tumbling down. All enjoyed the turnip that night while taking their dinner.

The sons called the dog but failed the dog called the cat but again failed at last the cat called the rat. The rat thought for a while and decided to help because as he was surviving in their crops. So he went under and ate up the roots and after eating the roots it was easy to pull up the big turnip.
