Moldova

Moldova, also called Moldavia (Bessarabia until the 1940's), is a former Soviet republic that became independent in 1991. It is smaller than Kerala and has a population of less than five million.
Moldova is one of the least urbanised of the republics of the former USSR. Agriculture is the primary occupation of the people and the country is a leading producer of grapes, tobacco and rose oil.
The capital and largest city is Chisinau (Kishinev).
