Kyrghzstan is a mountainous country about the size of Gujarat, but with a population of only about 4.5 million.
A former Soviet republic, it became independent in December 1991. Its neighbours are China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tadzhikistan.
Kyrghzstan exports minerals, agricultural products and livestock and imports machinery, clothing and foodstuffs.
