Peanuts and peanut products are the main exports of The Gambia, which, like the peanut, is more long than broad — only about 32 kilometers at its widest
point, and
450 kilometres in length. Officially called the Republic of The Gambia, or The Gambia, it is mainland Africa’s smallest country. Its neighbour, Senegal, hugs it on three sides, and on the fourth, it opens out to the Atlantic Ocean.
English is widely spoken, a legacy of British rule from which the tiny nation broke free in 1965. The main African languages are Wolof and Mandinka.
