The 300 m high Eiffel Tower was built for the Paris World Fair in 1889. The man who built it was a bridge engineer named Alexandre Gustave Eiffel. For years American and English engineers had tried to build a tower 300 m high but all of them had failed. When Gustave Eiffel succeeded the world gasped in wonder. Built of wrought iron the tower was completed by 250 workers in only 2 years and 2 months.
One gets a breathtaking view of Paris from the top of the tower.
