At the entrance to Copenhagen harbour in Denmark there is a bronze statue of a mermaid. "Den Lille Havfrue," The Little Mermaid, as she is known, is a memorial to one of the greatest story-tellers of all time, Hans Christian Andersen who died in 1875. The statue is over 75 years old. A new head was made for her when the original was destroyed by vandals. One of her arms too has been replaced.
The statue draws over 500,000 tourists each year!
