Colourful Giants

Birdwings are the giants of the butterfly world. These butterflies are so large tht early European explorers in New Guinea where these butterflies were found in abundance used to shoot them down with guns!
The largest and the grandest of the birdwings and therefore the world's largest butterfly is the female of the Queen Alexandra's Birdwing. This butterfly has a wingspan of 330 m!
The male is puny in comparison being a mere 240 mm so across the wings.
