Defence Dragonflies Master Art of Motion Camouflage
Many creatures can camouflage themselves into their environment, when they are still. But some have mastered the art of camouflage while they are moving. According to recent research dragon flies are one such creatures.
A team of scientists used special cameras to be able to pinpoint an object's position in three dimensions to reconstruct dragonfly movement. From this they understood that dragonflies achieve “ motion camouflage” by adjusting their position in order to always occupy the same spot in its prey's retina -- so it looks stationary while it is actually moving thus fooling their prey.
Scientists believe this involves very precise flight control and ability to sense the exact position of its prey .
