Bee Sting Therapy is gaining popularity in the USA. In this method of treatment of pain, the honeybee is taken out of a jar and placed against the skin so that it can sting the person. The intense pain of the sting soon gives way to itching and then there is soothing relief not only at the site of the sting but throughout the body. The bee can be placed at the specific trouble spot or all along the spine so that the curative venom can be distributed to various parts of the body. Apitherapy, as it is called, is said to work by stimulating the adrenal glands to release hormones that prevent inflammation. The therapy is attractive to people who have to bear intense pain in their everyday lives due to ailments like rheumatoid arthritis. Many people claim to have benefited from the treatment, but though there are almost 3000 doctors in North America providing this therapy, the medical profession in general views it with suspicion and says that it is an unproven technique that could end up doing more harm than good. Interestingly, Homeopaths use a medicine called Apis Mellifica which is made from honeybees ground together. It is used to treat arthritis, skin eruptions and other conditions.
