His heart was full of love
And he was gentle like a dove
Towards all human beings
He travelled east and west
He freed the country from the foreign yoke
In a non-violent way
And gave his life for the country’s sake
Facing the bullet
Hail to Bapuji, the Mahatma
Hail to the father of all our country men
You have left us in a world of happiness
Of truth and sharing
You look so simple at the spinning wheel
Yet glory of labour to us you have taught
To the teeming hungry millions
Hope you have brought
You noble path we shall tread
And strive to keep our country free
From base and selfish thoughts
And any kind of slavery
I bow and pay my respect.
