INDIAN PARLIAMENT

1. The power to make laws at the central level is rested in our Parliament, which has two houses1.Lok Sabha 2. Rajya Sabha. Parliament means 1. The President 2.the Lok sabha 3. the Rajya sabha.
2. Lok Sabha has 545 members, directly elected.
3. Elections are held once in five years.
4. But Rajya Sabha has 250 members. It is a permanent body.
5. Parliament makes laws on the items in the union list and the concurrent list. This applies to the whole country.
6. If a bill is to become act it should be approved in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya sabha, and receive President’s assent.
7. Lok Sabha has more powers than any other house, because it is the house of people’s representatives. Its members are elected by people directly.
8. Rajya Sabha is the parishad of our states. Its members are elected indirectly. Regarding financial bills, Lok sabha has an upper hand.
9. In addition to making laws Parliament has,
· Power to direct the functioning of the union council of ministers.
· Financial powers.
· Power to amend the constitution
· Power to elect vice-president, and
· Power to remove from office President and vice-president.
10. Our President is elected by the people of our country indirectly.
