TALES FROM READERS

The Haunted House

One night, Dan was cycling down a lonely road when he heard strange noises from the Haunted House. He pedaled at full speed to reach home and went to sleep. In the morning, he heard his friends shouting: "Dan, Dan, Are you coming to play with us?" "I will change and come," he shouted back. When he was getting ready, his Mom reminded him: "Dan, I know it is vacation. But you must study after you come back from playing." He agreed and rushed to the ground. He told his friends: "Guys, there is something spooky about that haunted house." They laughed and said: "That is why it is called a Haunted House." Dan said "I am not kidding friends. There is something mysterious going on there. Come let's go and find out." They cycled over to the Haunted House. When they entered the compound it looked really spooky and they suddenly spotted tyre tracks on the path. Dan and his friends followed it and reached the garage. Dan leaned on a knob and it gave way. The tyre tracks had led them down the way behind the door. All of a sudden, Sanjay said that he had tuition in 30 minutes. So they all ran back to the gate and found it locked. With shaky legs, they climbed over the gate and jumped down to find that their bicycles tyres had been punctured. They all somehow managed to get back home but decided to meet the next day.
The next day, they reached the garage with food. They pedaled down the path and stopped on hearing some sounds. They quickly hid behind some boxes and saw a pickup van. After the van was completely out of sight, Dan and his friends were curious to know the contents of the boxes. When they peeped inside the boxes, they saw packets of brown sugar in the boxes. As they moved down they saw lots of pickup vans and a huge room full of boxes. Dan and his friends immediately left the place and pedalled to the police station. They narrated the incident to the police Inspector. The police reached there and surrounded the house. They captured the criminals and disposed off the brown sugar.
The police Inspector was very happy with Dan and his friends and gifted each of them with fifty thousand rupees. Later they even got a chance to receive a medal from the President of India.
