TALES FROM READERS

Charlie's Pet Lion

Charlie was a little boy of nine years, like you and me. He was rich and had all the video games he wanted but he had only one wish.
- "Why can't we keep a pet lion mom?" asked Charlie.
- "Sorry, lion is a wild animal and if you keep, it will eat all of us" replied mom.
- "Even me?"
- "Yes Sonny"
- "If we keep it in a locked room?"
- "It will do nothing"
- "Then we can keep it"
- "But we don't get it in the pet shop"
- "Oh!"
Charlie thought and thought for sometime and had a brainwave. He would go to Africa for a pet lion and he would go himself!
He broke his piggy bank for money and he had two pound 50 cents.
-"Enough for going to Africa" - thought Charlie.
Next he opened his school atlas, found Africa and decided to go to Ethiopia.
With his money he went to the booking office on his bicycle and waited until his turn came.
-"Where do you want to go sir? - asked the agent.
- "Ethiopia by Emir... Emir..."
- "Emirates do you mean?"
- "Yes"
- "200 pounds 50 cents sir"
- "Oh!"
Charlie did not have that much money. So he went to the ship office.
Charlie's turn came.
-"One ticket for Ethiopia tomorrow" , said Charlie without stopping.
"900 pounds", replied the shipping agent.
It was more expensive, so he returned home sad.
He finished his lunch, sat down on a chair, thought for a long time until he had another brainwave. He decided to make his own boat.
With his two pounds, he bought an axe. He went to the forest and started collecting woods. He searched his garage and found a tool box.
With great efforts he made a boat.
The next day he woke up early, finished his breakfast and set off.
-"Charlie, where are you off to this early morning?" asked his mother.
But she was too late, Charlie had gone.
He took two cricket bats for oars and two of his mother's bracelets for oarlocks. He went to the beach and started his journey.
Many waves came and suddenly a huge wave came. After some minutes he reached ashore. He anchored his boat and went in search of the lions. He walked for a long time but there was no lion anywhere.
As he walked further, he found the place to be very familiar.
Suddenly he saw a banner in which it was written "Welcome to Woogle's Land"
It was then that Charlie realized that the big wave that had come had actually changed the direction of the boat and thus returned to Woogle's Land from where he had started !
