TALES FROM READERS

The Girl With X-Ray Eyes

Once there was a girl named Ria. She lived with her grandmother. She would go to the garden opposite her house to play with her new friends Sonu, Pinku and Naman. The four children would go together to school.
Early one morning, Ria was getting ready for school. She could not find her pencil box. She searched everywhere for it.
"Oh God! What shall I do now?'' She sighed.
Just then Naman called out to her ''Ria !''.
Ria went to the window and waved. "My friends are here." she thought. She looked around her room. Suddenly in a drawer she saw her pencil box.
" Yippee ! "she shouted happily. She quickly opened the drawer and took out her pencil box. As she went down, she had a thought "How did I see my box through the closed drawer?'' She started walking to school with Sonu, Pinku and Naman. They were talking loudly about the picnic. They were walking along a building and had to cross the road to reach school. Ria was laughing. Then suddenly, through the walls of the building she saw a van coming at high speed. Naman was ahead of her and was about to cross the road.
''Naman! Stop!'' shouted Ria. He turned and looked at her. At the same moment the van crossed him at high speed. Naman was saved.
"Wow Ria!" said Sonu "You stopped Naman from crossing.'' The van would have hit him'' said Pinku. But Naman was puzzled ''How did you know the van is coming? Could you see through the building?''
"Yes" answered Ria.
''My God! You have X-ray eyes'' said Pinku. Now Ria had understood how she had found her pencilbox. Yes! she had x-ray eyes.
Her friends cheered her. Ria felt proud.
