POEM
The Dark Sky

Abha Belorkar

IX C

Bhavan's Sulochana Natu Vidya Mandir, Pune

The Dark Sky

In a dazzling full
moon night,

Glazed a marble palace white,

A beautiful princess there itself,

Stepped out of her gloomy rich shelf.

Her black round eyes stared high,

The stars, the moon, the endless sky.

She wished she was one of twinkling stars,

And none could throw her gay light in bars.

She wished she was the moon if ever,

And worshipped the earth for all the year.

But then she realized she is a dark sky,

Yes, indeed, indeed, a very dark sky,

Too black by the stars to be lightened,

Too black by the moon to be brightened.

And then she closed the wet eyes of hers,

In an effort to scold her jostling drops of tears.
