Among fifty unknown faces, I sat
With a nervous air,
Thinking whom to befriend and whom not,
Would I remember what the teacher taught?
Such questions cropped up in my mind
Answers to which, was difficult to find.
Engrossed deep in thought,
Unwittingly the teacher’s attention I caught
She had asked a question,
Which I did not listen.
'Tell me the answer!’
The teacher demanded.
I don’t know ‘, I replied, pokerfaced
The teacher clapped with joy,
And said, ’What a brilliant boy!’
‘Arko, since your translation is correct,
You are the one I select
As monitor of the class’
Really very fortunate I was..!
Such was my first day at school
And I must say, ‘It was pretty cool!’
