The first bridge known to Historians was an arch-bridge build in Babylon in about 2260 B.C. The anicent Romans provided the design and the use of natural cement and great stone-bridge in China. It is still used by the people. There are seven main kinds of Bridges . They are: Grider-Bridge, Truss-Bridge, Arch-Bridge,Contilever-bridge, Suspension-bridge, Cable-bridge, Draw-Bridges. Bridges now are used only to cross water bodies but we also have flyovers to overcome the growing demand for road space, many countries have two to three flyovers to ensure smooth-flow of Traffic.
The world's biggest, bussiest bridge is the Howrah bridge accross the river Hooghly in Kolkata. In addition to 57000 vehicles a day, it carries a huge number of pedestrians across its 1,500 ft long and 75ft wide space.
