The British Residency

Location: Osmania University College
For Women ( Koti )
Visit on any working days
(2nd Sat.& Sun.-holidays)
Timings: 10a.m – 4p.m.

My Experience and Opinion:

The British Residency is a magnificent awe-inspiring edifice in the sprawling campus. There are many huge, old trees and the place is filled with cooing, cawing and chirping of the birds.
The Residency in Hyderabad is said to be the perfect and well planned structure that the British have built in India. The lofty Darbar Hall with wide stair case is illuminated by the sunlight during the day.
Apart from the main building, the whole campus has the interesting facts about the past to reveal. I became adventurous and explored the premises. A 200 years old Cypress tree is amusing.
The Raang Mahal and Begums fountain are in ruins.
A portion of the building is in use but most of the portion is left unutilized and is not maintained.
The history lesson was brought alive to me when I visited the place.

Dimdima is the Sanskrit word for ‘drumbeat’. In olden days, victory in battle was heralded by the beat of drums or any important news to be conveyed to the people used to be accompanied with drumbeats.
