DOES A BLACK CAT BRING BAD LUCK
By  -  Tauseef Zaveri   (Std. IX)

Many people all over the world feel that the sight of a black cat is not good. They think that if a black cat passes our path it will prove bad luck to us. But most of us don't know that why a black cat in particular is considered as a sign of bad luck
The fact is that, it is nothing but superstition to consider a cat as a sign of bad luck. This superstition is continued from thousands of years.
Long back the ancient Egyptians worshipped a goddess called Pasht whose head resembled that of a cat.

They believed that this goddess had nine lives. Whenever a black cat died in Egypt they mummified its dead body. From a cemetery of Egypt remains of thousands of black cats have been discovered. Therefore killing of black cat was considered as an offence. It was punishable by a sentence to death. Thus people had a great fear of the black cat.
After some years, during the middle ages witches and witch doctors (tantrik) always used the skull of black cat to prepare mysterious medicines. As a result people started thinking that a black cat was a sign of bad luck. Thus people have been suffering from this superstition for many centuries. The truth is that no cat is inauspicious (the sign of bad luck). The cat is a pet animal which was domesticated about 5000 years ago.
