Driving in New Zealand

Driving is very easy in NZ. The roads are broad & there are many lanes. The Motorways are fast moving roads (highways), where you can drive at the speed of 100 km per hr or more. New Zealanders drive on the left-hand side of the road. Drivers give way (or yield) to all traffic crossing or approaching from the right.
The speed limit is 100km/h on the open road and 50km/h in urban areas. You will find multi-lane motorways and expressways on the approaches to the larger cities, with most roads being dual carriageways. Signposting follows standard international symbols and all distances are in kilometres (km).
Any person who has completed his or her 15th birthday can get a license. But there are different types of license, like the learner’s license, restricted license or the full license. To get a license, the first thing you have to do is to give a written test. This test consist of 35 questions, out of which, you should get 32 answers correct. The questions are in the form of choose the correct alternative out of the 3 or 4 given answers. Only one is correct. You have to scratch the correct box, & a tick can be seen at that box. If your answer selected by you is wrong, the box will have a cross sign. So by the end of the test, you know your score & whether you have passed or not. Half an hour duration is given to answer the test. Each time you fail, you need to appear again.
Same goes with the practical test. Once you go for your written test, they take your photograph at that time. That remains the same till you clear the written & the practical. In the practical test, they test all your driving skills. Once you’ve mastered all these skills, you pass & within 2 or 3 days the license comes to your postal address. In the license, there are 2 photos, one visible & the other a faint looking one. All the details are mentioned on it, for eg, the name, date of birth, which category the license belongs, date of issue, the date of expiry, whether you wear glasses & so on. The written test is easy, as all questions are given in the road code book which is easily available in the library or other places. There are about more than 200 such practice questions. Answers to no questions are mentioned, as you need to find them on your own. Only the page numbers are indicated. The test that you appear comes from these practice questions only.
