You may not be the fastest or the strongest, but you can become the best in your chosen sport. That is, if you are willing to do whatever it takes to reach there!
Success in sports is not about physical barriers. In nine out of ten cases it is about getting over the 'mental barrier'. As you rise from inter class to inter school, and from there on to college, university, district, state and the national levels, you will see that the competition gets stiffer and that the athletes are themselves more motivated. With the workload increasing and the competition seeming 'unbeatable', most athletes with lesser talent or physical shortcomings usually give up sport as they reach higher levels. When this happens, you have to hang on; look for smarter ways of becoming stronger and faster, and technically better than your opponents or teammates. The secret to success as you climb higher is real hard work, which unfortunately can be boring most of the time.
You will be surprised to see some of your teammates succeeding at the highest levels without working very hard. Don't get fooled by them. They have reached this stage because of natural talent, but sooner rather than later they will fall by the wayside. These athletes, because of their better talent usually make it to the playing team, while you sit out and watch. Don't let that bother you and don't think about them. Many things are unfair in sport, but isn't that true of daily life too! Concentrate on your training schedule. Their bad training habits will catch up with them very soon, so get yourself mentally ready to take their place in the team.
Success in sport is all about stepping outside your COMFORT ZONE! You have to challenge yourself. Your weaknesses are your stepping-stones to success. The harder you work on eliminating your weaknesses the faster you will reach your goals. Do whatever it takes to succeed!
