Kevin Doug Walters was born on 21 December 1945, at Marshdale in New South Wales. A right-handed middle order batsman, he also bowled at a military medium pace. Walters made his test debut against England at Brisbane in 1965-6 and retired after the 3rd test against India in 1980-1. He played in the first ever one-day international at Melbourne against England in 1970-1 and his last limited overs match was played against New Zealand at Sydney in the World Series Cup in 1980-1.
One of Australia's most exciting batsmen if not the finest, Walters played 74 tests, scored 5357 runs at an average of 48.26 with 250 as his highest. He scored 15 hundreds and claimed 49 wickets. He played only 28 one-day internationals and scored 513 runs. He was a folk-hero in Australia and there is a stand named after him at Perth. He disliked the training and the discipline that personified Australian cricket in the 80s for he always remained a country-boy. A man with a great sense of humour, he was liked and respected by his teammates.
