The Sultan of Crunei wished to get his only daughter married. There were four men who wished to marry her. So he held a contest to decide on the winner.
He put the princess in a 5 x 5 metre carpeted room and asked each of the four suitors to stand in the different corners of the room. He made them stand on small boxes. Then he told them that whoever touched the princess’ hand first could marry her. But, he also added that they could not walk across the carpet to reach her, nor could they leap across with the help of ropes, ladders, blocks, etc.
One suitor figured out a way and married the princess. How?
Dimdima is the Sanskrit word for ‘drumbeat’. In olden days, victory in battle was heralded by the beat of drums or any important news to be conveyed to the people used to be accompanied with drumbeats.
