NATURE'S FURY

By Aishik Dhar (VII C)

"Why, why did this have to happen? There was no reason for it to come and destroy our lives". This was all that a grief-struck widow who had lost her husband and her only daughter in the Tsunami could say before tears rolled down her cheeks. No one ever thought holidaying in the Andaman and Nicobar islands could turn into a nightmare. So it happened on the 26th of December when the Tsunami struck those areas to devastate the coastal life there by taking away more than 1,50,000 human lives. Many were on the beach when it hit, and many of them were in bed after the Christmas Day celebrations, eyes closed... and they remained closed, forever...
Houses destroyed, villages ravaged, and even islands swept out of the map- this was the picture asfter the Tsunami disaster. Even though relief work is in full swing and money is pouring in from everywhere, it would take some time to bring the havoc situation under control.
Amazingly, the Tsunami could not make even one tribal person its prey- how did they know about the Tsunami hours before it hit? That still remains a mystery.
To help those affected, we should all contribute generously. We should not just make a mere donation, but extend a helping hand to those who have lost everything but hope and life, and now battle hunger, disease and trauma.
