TSUNAMI 2004

By Anwesha Goswami (VI A)

People rarely witness the strong forces of nature. Tsunami is one of the forces of nature which caused great loss to human life and property. People living near the sea suffered the most. Their sufferings are too painful to describe. When the year almost came to an end in 2004, on the 26th of December, many parts of the world got the rudest shock- The Tsunami- The waters in the oceans rose to 56 metres above killing 1.5 lakhs and thousand were missing. The epi-centre of the Tsunami was near Indonesia.
During the Tsunami, SriLanka was affected from all the sides killing 18,700 people. In India, in Tamil Nadu 4500 people died. Even the marine animals died. Forest officials expressed surprise that they found no evidence of large- scale animal deaths.
The government and many other people are trying their best to help all those countries and people who have been affected by the tsunami.
26th December- this day will never be forgotten specially by those who have faced the terrible disaster on that day. We hope that it never happens again.
