TEETH

By Isha Lawate (V C)

The first set of teeth is called milk teeth. Milk teeth begins to fall and the new teeth starts appearing in their place which are the permanent teeth.
An adult has 32 teeth. The teeth in front are known as incisors. Next to them are canines, which are sharp and pointed. Premolars and molars are at the back. They are flat and wide, used for crushing and grinding food.
The surface of the teeth is made up of a hard substance called enamel. Beneath it is dentine. Inside the dentine is a soft portion which has blood vessels and nerves called pulp. Root is inside the gums which holds the tooth firmly in place.
When we eat food, small bites of food get stuck between our teeth. If these food particles remain for long, they begin to decay. This causes our teeth to decay too and form cavities. Decayed food causes swelling of gums and toothache. Because of which teeth falls off. So if permanent teeth falls off no new teeth will appear in their place. Hence proper care should be taken.
Brushing teeth after every meals removes food particles and prevents decaying of tooth. If any cavity is noticed, one should go to a dentist to prevent further damage.
