THE WAR

By Manan Mehrotra (IV A )

It has been more than a week since I went to my school. These days I am spending my time watching TV. The nights are very scary. No one is allowed to switch on lights outside, all windows remain closed covered with black paper. The war between two neighbours India and Pakistan is on.
I am watching Tom and Jerry show on Cartoon Network when suddenly my mom comes in the TV room and snatches the remote from my hand, the star news is back. They are showing live pictures from some city in Punjab. Everything in the city is on fire, charred and badly burnt bodies of men and animals are lying everywhere. Ambulances are going around collecting wounded. It is now that I heard my mom saying Pakistan has used nuclear bomb. Though I knew what’s a nuclear bomb, I never believed the extent of harm it can cause.
My mother switches on to other news channels. Every channel is showing injured being brought to hospital. I saw one of the doctor saying that their hospital is full and can no longer look after any more patients. So many people are dying and no one is able to help them. My mom says we must attack Pakistan. Suddenly I hear my father’s voice asking me to get up as its time to get ready for the school. Oh! what a bad dream it was. I got up with tears in my eyes and told my father everything.
Now I'm back in my school, writing my English work sheet. However wounds of my nightmare are still fresh. But what can I do? I have an idea to start a signature campaign against war. Will you join me?

Dimdima is the Sanskrit word for ‘drumbeat’. In olden days, victory in battle was heralded by the beat of drums or any important news to be conveyed to the people used to be accompanied with drumbeats.
