MYSTERIES OF THE UNIVERSE

By Priya Mehra (VIII-E)

‘Twinkle twinkle little star; how I wonder what you are?’ asked my little sister innocently. To this my grandmother confidently replied ‘After death, all good people become shining stars.’ ‘And what happens to the bad people, granny?’ she prodded. ‘God thrashes them’ said granny. The young mind seemed to be satisfied by the simple logic, but mine just wanted to probe deeper. Truly....Infinite, unexplored, undefined and vast, this is our universe of which each one of us is a part.
The universe.... it is the beginning and the end of our mortal lives, the provider and the controller of our little worlds. The scientists are just beginning to unravel its mysteries but the answers they find, leave even more questions unanswered. The poets have yet not found the right words and expressions to match up to its beauty and diversity. While the yogis close their eyes, deep in meditation to unite their souls with its serenity and energy. The earliest spiritual books mentioned that Brahma created the universe, from which flowed the elixir of life.
Ever since man stepped on this earth, the Sun sheltered him with its warmth and light. The Sun, which is an integral part of our galaxy is not the only one of its kind.
There are million such and many a billion other galaxies, just like ours in this amazing Universe. We are only beginning to discover the atom, which is the smallest part of the cosmos.
The thought of an alien species so complex, which could make man look like an amoeba is quite over-whelming but yet not impossible. There is nothing that we can call unimaginable because the universe is just like our minds whose nature cannot be predicted nor defined.
Thus I would like to complete by saying, ‘mystery is universe and universe is mystery.’

Dimdima is the Sanskrit word for ‘drumbeat’. In olden days, victory in battle was heralded by the beat of drums or any important news to be conveyed to the people used to be accompanied with drumbeats.
