IN THE FUTURE

By Animesh S. Mehta (VI-D)

Hm! It's a thought! What if man could travel through time? It was quite an interesting prospect. The thought sprang into my mind when I was reading 'The Time Machine' by H.G. Wells. Man could explore the future… or even change the past! That was reason enough for me. I set out to build a Time Machine. After two months of hard researching and rigorous work, I had built a Time Machine. I decided to call it the Chronometer. It looked like a watch.

I decided to explore the future. I set the dial for the year 3512 A.D. I pressed a button and I felt myself being pushed through a mist. I finally opened my eyes and found myself lying in an underground cave. I was shaken. What was I doing lying under the ground? I heard footsteps coming towards me.
I was terribly scared and I saw a group of tough-looking men heading my way. They asked me what I was doing. I told them how I had come over there. The leader of the group told me that in the last five hundred years, robots had taken over the world. They ruled over the humans and had destroyed most of them. But some had hidden in sewers and underground. He said that he was Jarmal, the head of the rebellion. He said that there was a huge power plant with a source that supplied power to all robots. If it was destroyed, the robots would become powerless and shut down instantly. The humans could finally take over the robots. But I was about to get the biggest shock of my life.
Jarmal said that I would have to enter the power plant with the explosive. Mankind was depending on me. Jarmal took me to the drop-off site near the power plant. I made my way to the power plant and confronted a robot guard. I told him that I was there to fix the frammilizer. He believed me. I went down the pathway and saw two other robot guards. They tried to vaporize me but I busted through them into the power source. I placed the device on the glowing source and jumped into an Emergencey Exit chute and slid out of the Power Plant and ran for my life. The Power Plant blew up behind me. The Robots were dead. The Humans had won. I found Jarmal and we rejoiced.
I pressed the button to get back to the present. It was an amazing Time Adventure.
