ARTICLE
Animals Are Our Friends

The nature of our relationship with animals, has come under close scrutiny, in recent decades. It is a highly emotive topic. Since ancient times humankind has always exploited animals to meet a wide variety of its needs and requirements - food, entertainment, companionship and to further scientific advancements.
In the modern world, our best friend may turn against us. The son or a daughter reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. The near and dear ones can become traitors. Money can be lost or spent. The one absolute, unselfish friend that we can have in this selfish world is an animal. It never deserts us and never proves ungrateful. We keep pets to satisfy our emotional, rather than material needs. We seem to gain comfort and trust from them, which might not be found elsewhere. When riches take wings and reputation falls to pieces an animal remains a constant companion. He doesn’t differentiate between a pauper or a prince. An animal kisses the hands of his friend which has no food to offer. He licks the wounds and sores of his friend.
Today, the beneficiary effects of friendly relationship between animals and humans have received great societal attention. There is a heightened awareness that animals are the best friends of humankind.
