Lucky

Jaimy Susan Davies

Lucky

On a stroll along a
windy road

Her toe stepped on a five rupee note.

Her friends let out a gasp,

Everyone said “She is lucky.”

Question thirteen was on the other side

No one saw it, except her.

She came out top in class.

Everyone said, “She is lucky.”

The Great A’s baton fell, the strong B were off the track,

The fast C sprained their leg,

The weak D won taking time.

Everyone said, “She is lucky.”

Her parents had the chicken pox; her brother had the chicken pox,

Her neighbours had the chicken pox.

She played alone in the sunny ground.

Everyone said, “She is lucky.”

The smashed bus was lying upside down.

She and her family were on a tour.

The lone survivor’s eyes filled with tears, as-

Everyone said, “She is lucky.”
