Rules for Teachers

Giving an apple to the teacher or a little bunch of flowers may not be allowed under a new code of ethics proposed for the profession. The New Zealand Teachers Council is drafting a code of ethics to police the behaviour of teachers -----a requirement of the Education Act 2003, which is under process.
Included in a draft of rules in the new code of ethics, teachers will not:
∑ Be able to accept any gift or favour that might influence or seem to influence professional decisions or actions.
∑ Deceive parents or families over the abilities of their child or children.
∑ Punish a student unnecessarily, harshly or unfairly.
Rules for Teachers in 1915:
*You will not marry during the terms of your contract.
*You are not to keep company with men.
*You must be home between the hours of 8pm & 8am unless attending a school function.
*You may not travel beyond the city limits without permission of the Chairman of the Board.
*You may not loiter down town in ice cream stores.
*You may not ride in any carriage or automobile with any man unless he is your father or brother.
*You may not smoke cigarettes.
*You may not dress in bright colours.
*You may, under no circumstances, dye your hair.
*You must wear at least two petticoats & your dresses must not be any shorter than two inches above the ankle.
*To keep the school clean you must: Sweep the floor at least once daily. Scrub the floor with hot, soapy water once a week. Clean the blackboard at least once a day. Start the fire at 7am so that the room will be warm by 8am.
Note please: These rules are not applicable today!!!!!.
