Swami Vivekananda

1863-1902

Swami Vivekananda, possibly the most masterful personality of modern India, "came, saw and conquered." He lit the torch of resurgent
Hinduism, Sanatana Dharma, particularly the Vedanta philosophy, in far-off America. He preached the gospel of his Guru. Ramakrishna Paramahamsa all over India, and the world, reviving the faith of mankind in religion. With his superb oratorical flair, he advocated the spread of "man-making" education and was an untiring crusader of purity of life and character. He founded the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, perhaps the most wide-spread voluntary non-official socio-religious organization in the world.

When swamiji's father died he left nothing for the family to survive so Narendra (swamiji) had to look for the job to raise the family, but he was not able to find the job even after trying very hard so he went to himalayas for getting ultimate peace.

When Swamiji first met his guru Shri Shri Ramakrishna Parmahansa he asked him a question which he used to ask whenever he meets any saint,Question was HAVE U EVER SEEN GOD,he never received any satisfactory answer. Until he met Ramakrishna Paramahansa who answered saying- YES I see him as I see you. This was the turning point in the life of SWAMIJI, from this moment onwards he realised that he has met a true saint and he became his follower.

When Shri Shri Ramakrishna Parmahansa first met Swamiji he came to know that he is the blessed soul. When swamiji attained the status of Nirvikalp Samadhi, he wanted to be liberated from his body but at that time Ramakrishna Parmahansa told him that key to your liberation is with me and this lock will open only when your purpose of coming to this world is achieved

Swamiji being the gospel of sri Paramahamsar drank the saliva of guru when the guru was affected by a serious disease. This shows that he was not only a best student but also a lovable personality with great humanity.

This page is so inspiring....... Some information about swamiji: During his days as Parivrajaka, swamiji met Pavahari baba who is called as the "Father who subsists on air". He was the Master of Hatha yoga & Raja yoga. Swamiji was interested in learning Hatha Yoga but his thoughts about his beloved master stoped him from learning........... i feel very proud to write something about such a great personality.

When swamiji was a young boy, he was very kind hearted. There is one incident I know about swamiji's childhood that is , Once from the school they had a picnic programme to Delhi, to see the Red Fort. Their teachers made some 6 groups of boys and girls, among one of the group some student's accompanied swamiji. But after walking some distance one of the student fell down because of his illness. All the other 5 students left that boy behind. But then swamiji felt pity of that boy, and at that time the boy was very much serious. Then swamiji took him to the hospital by himself. Then he also called his parents and also that boy's parents and all family members. Thus in this way he saved the life of that boy. And also the doctor said that if this boy was a minute late he would have died. So, this was the great glory of Swamiji. Swamiji's name of childhood was "NARENDRA", and afterwards he came to be known as "SWAMI VIVEKANANDA "

Swami Vivekananda told us "be bold, take the whole responsibilities of world on your shoulder and know that you are creator of your destiny". All successful persons follow and worship him.
