TALES FROM READERS

Tula Wants To Grow Up!

'Nee Nee' the little voice from far away startled the wise owl – Monga. Monga was known for his wisdom and watched everyone with interest. He knew that Sheela gave birth to a new pony – Tula. But the neighing sound became more and more louder each night. So he decided to go there and watch. Sheela was quite taken by surprise to have a visitor at this time of the night.
Monga asked her, "What is this sound? Is Tula fine?" To this Sheela replied, "What can I do? Tula wants to grow up soon. She wants to run, find fresh grass and seek more friends." Monga smiled wisely. He said, "Let me take Tula out early at dawn. I will show her how it takes time to grow." There was a smile in Sheela's eyes. She bid goodbye to Monga and slept peacefully.
Dawn was the best thing in Chitrakoot forest. Everything seemed happy and pleasant. Monga went over to Tula and said, 'Hurry Tula, I want to show you some interesting things." Would you like to come with me?" Tula asked," Does that mean I am getting bigger? Monga replied, "Of course you are!"
Monga showed her the gentle morning sun and said, "You see the sun rises and it is warm everywhere. But by afternoon it grows hot." Tula nodded. She was excited and wanted to know more. Monga said, "You will have to hurry, I cannot bear the bright sunlight. It hurts my eyes." "Ok." Said Tula, panting to catch up with the speed of Monga flying.
"Look at the baby buds. Aren't they still sleepy?" Asked Tula. "Wait for them to grow and they will make the garden beautiful." "How much time does it take to grow?" Asked Tula. "Oh! It takes a while, depending on Mother Nature! Now hurry up!" Tula was out of breath and she said, "I can't go on. I am tired and hungry." Monga said, "That's what exactly I wanted you to know. It takes time for your body to grow and become stronger in your mind. All of us need to wait."
Tula got the message. She said, "Oh! And I thought practicing to neigh will make me big." Both of them giggled. She went home and hugged her mother. Sheela gave a nod to Monga. Back at home, Tula watched the long grasslands and remembered they were just little when she was born. It has certainly taken a while! She looked around and noticed big things and small. The ripe mangoes, the small bamboo grass, the big elephant and the cubs of panther. She said to herself. "This is really exciting. I must thank Mother Nature for being a pony".
