TALES FROM READERS

The Thief Caught Atlast

Last Sunday Karuna was returning from her Aunt's house by bus. She was still a little frightened of travelling by bus, as her aunt's ornaments were once stolen while travelling in a bus.
Her aunt told her to keep her money in a safe place. Karuna kept it in the inner chain of her bag and caught a auto-rickshaw and reached the bus-stop. Karuna got a seat with much difficulty when she saw an old man standing beside her as if pleading her to lend her seat to him. So Karuna got up with respect and offered him her seat but to Karuna's astonishment a young lady came quickly and sat on the seat. The man looked at her helplessly. However the lady did not feel any shame and started doing make-up.
At night Karuna started feeling uneasy and she got up and she couldn't believe what she saw. She saw a man taking money from the young lady who had not offered her seat to the poor old man. Karuna thought that she deserved it. But inspite of that she decided to help that lady. She made up a plan in her mind and according to it she pretended to be asleep. Karuna was a clever girl. She threw a banana peel in front of the thief and as he did not notice it he fell down with a THUD! Now Karuna started shouting, HELP! HELP! And woke everyone up. The Police also heard her shouting and came quickly to her rescue. They took the thief to jail and locked him up. Everyone wanted the thief to be brought before them and thrashed. Then they all praised Karuna for her wittiness. When she reached home her bag was full of chocolates. Karuna's parents asked her where she got them from and as a reply she said,``It's a very long story."
