The Blind Woman

A blind old woman named Sarita lived in a palatial house with all comforts. Her only son Ajay was in his final year in college and he stayed in the hostel.
Sarita was very kind and noble and always helped needy people. But her neighbour Binni was very clever and greedy. She was looking for an opportunity to cheat Sarita. One morning when Sarita was taking a stroll in her garden, she stumbled upon a stone and fell down and Binni’s dog pounced upon her. She screamed groping for her stick.
Binni who was watching her across the boundary wall as always, rushed towards her. She helped her with the stick and said, “Hold my hand and I will take you inside.”
Sarita asked, “Who are you?”
Binni replied very politely, “I am your neighbour and always wanted to be your companion as I am all alone in this world.”
The old woman took pity on her and said, “You can come over to my house. I am also alone. My son will come next month after finishing his studies.”
The invitation was music to Binni’s ears because she was longing for this golden opportunity for a long time.
Binni started visiting the blind woman. Every time she stole something precious like a silver vase, a bronze statue, silver crockery or a wall painting from Sarita’s house.
After a month when Ajay came home he was taken aback to see the house empty. He asked, his mother, “Where have you kept all the things?”
Sharita was shocked. She said she had not touched anything nor was there any servant who could have done it.
Then Ajay said, “Somebody has stolen them. Does anybody come to our house?”
Sarita replied, “Our neighbour has been visiting the house regularly for the past one month, but she seems to be very nice.”
Ajay said, “When she comes today, don’t tell her I have come back..”
.Ajay peeped into Binni’s house through the window and was shocked to see all his valuables decorated in her house. He discussed a plan with his mother.
The following day when Binni came, Sarita was sitting on her couch wearing red spectacles.
Binni smiled and said, “These spectacles look very strange. From where did you get them?”
The blind woman replied, “My son has brought these. You are looking gorgeous in this blue sari.”
Binni was stunned. She asked Sarita,`How can you see me?’
Sarita replied, “These are magical spectacles. I can see everything by wearing them.”
Binni thought that if she gave them to the blind millionaire in the village he would give her a handsome amount.
Binni pleaded with Sarita saying, “I will give you whatever money you want. Please give me the magical spectacles.”
Sarita said, “Give me all your jewellery and five lakh rupees.”
The greedy Binni agreed at once.
After giving all the valuables and money, she took the magical spectacles and left happily.
The following day, she met the millionaire.
She said, “Sir, I have magical spectacles which will restore your vision. But you have to pay me one million rupees.
The millionaire agreed but said he wanted to check them.
Binni gave him the spectacles happily.
When he wore it, he could not see anything. He threw them and shouted, “Greedy woman, do you think I am a fool?” And he asked his guards to throw her out of the house.
Vexed, Binni reached Sarita’s house itching for a fight but she found the house locked. There was a slip on the bolt.
It read, “I cannot see anything. The other day Ajay saw you coming to our house and he quickly came and told me that you were wearing a blue sari and quietly slipped into the other room. Now you must have learnt an important lesson. It’s not good to fool others. Somebody can be more intelligent than you. Good bye.”
Shocked and jolted, Binni collapsed on the ground.
