TALES FROM READERS

Mr. Twinkle Transforms

Once upon a time, in a small village, lived Mr. Twinkle who was very rich but he was selfish. He hated to share and he also hated to talk to the villagers. In the same village, lived, Jane, who was a generous girl and she never, hesitated to help others.
It happened that one day there was a cyclone and almost all the villagers suffered losses. But Mr. Twinkle's house was not damaged. Jane's house was destroyed and her family had to stay at her uncle's place. Many families found themselves without food and shelter Jane's uncle was the chief of the village and he decided that he would ask Mr. Twinkle to help them. So, all the villagers met him and they talked how to convince the old man to help them. Jane listened to them and she said that she would go to meet Mr. Twinkle.
The next day, Jane went to Mr. Twinkle's house. Mr. Twinkle was eating and when he saw her coming, he hid his food. Jane knocked at the door but the old man didn't open. Jane was not discouraged and she knocked again but the old man still, didn't open. Jane went home and told all the villagers that the old man didn't open the door. The villagers were convinced that indeed the old man was a very selfish and greedy person.
The chief was at a loss what to do and where to go for help. Jane also thought over what to do, as they were all hungry. They all knew that Mr. Twinkle had many potatoes in his storeroom. Suddenly Jane got an idea. She called her friends and she told them what was to be done. They were going to play a trick to Mr. Twinkle. They all knew that Mr. Twinkle wanted to be the chief of the village and that was the best way to enter his home by making him believe that he would become the chief.
So they all went to Mr. Twinkle's place. He was very surprised to see Jane. This time he opened the door.
"Hello! How are you sir?" said Jane.
"I am fine, how can I help you?" said Mr. Twinkle.
"Well, sir, my uncle has decided to make you the chief of the village as you are the richest person of the village."
"Is it true? Indeed I am rich, very rich"
Seeing Mr. Twinkle happy, Jane added "well, sir, to become the chief, you must show the villagers that you have a great heart, you must help them and then they will like you a lot"
"Oh! I see. How?"
"Well... Give them some food and money etc. then they will choose you as the chief. Change yourself."
"Ok I will try".
Jane knew that Mr. Twinkle wouldn't be able to do all these, as he hated to share. On the very next day, Jane was sitting in her garden when she saw Mr. Twinkle coming with lot of packets. He called her and he gave her some money to buy sweets and he was smiling.
Jane was a bit surprised and Mr. Twinkle asked her to call all the villagers at his place in the evening for a feast. Mr. Twinkle had asked all his servants to prepare food for all the villagers. The servants were very shocked as they saw Mr. Twinkle had changed.
Jane was amazed to see Mr. Twinkle very different. She called all the villagers and told them about the feast. They were indeed shocked, how come he has changed. In the evening, all the villagers went to Mr. Twinkle's place and they were astonished to see all the food for them. They got a warm welcome and they were very happy. They thanked him after the feast. Mr. Twinkle promised to help the villagers.
After two days, they all decided to make him the chief of the village. Everyone was happy and Mr. Twinkle changed a lot and Jane was his favourite. Jane was also happy.
