TALES FROM READERS

Magic Rose

Far, far away, there was a little island called Rose island. Just like its name, it was full of roses. In a little tree house of Rose island there lived a little girl. Her name was Brinda She was very clever and intelligent. She loved roses and magic. One day a fairy which came to Rose island. There they had a magic show. Brinda also wanted to see the show. She who was very excited also went to the show. She watched the magician perform many tricks. The show ended and it was time for her to go home. As she was leaving the magician's tent, she saw a board, in which it was written " PARTICIPATE IN A DRAWING COMPETITION AND YOU WILL WIN A MAGICAL GIFT FROM THE MAGICIAN". Brinda was excited about it and the next day she came back and participated in the drawing competition. Many hours later all the participants had finished their drawing. They gave their papers to the magician. He checked every drawing and shouted "Brinda is the winner!". Brinda jumped with joy. She was eager to see her magical gift. The magician gave her a beautiful red rose plant in a small, cute pot. Brinda thought it could do nothing. She went home and kept it on her window sill. One day she went out for a walk. She saw her friend Ramesh holding a cute little puppy in his hand. Brinda said "Where did you get this? It is so cute". Ramesh said that his father had bought it from some other land. Brinda went back to her tree house disappointed. She started crying as she knew that there was no pet shop on the rose island. She went to the window sill to see the little pup playing with Ramesh merrily. Her tear drop fell on the red rose. As soon as this happened, she felt something wet on her feet. She saw a cute little white pup licking her feet. She was very surprised but at the same time she was very happy. She realized that her red rose plant had granted her the wish. Thus she wished for many more things like doll, ice cream, cycle, frocks, stickers.
The news of the magic red rose spread. Her friends came to know that Brinda had a magic rose. They came to visit her. They asked, "May we wish for a few things?" But selfish Brinda would not allow them even to touch the rose. Her friends went away disappointed. After her friends left, she found her magic red rose missing! Brinda rushed to the magician's house crying. The magician looked at Brinda and he opened the door. Brinda complained to him about the disappearance of the rose. The Magician said " I made my rose come here because you were selfish. You were rude to your friends. So I won't give you my rose". Brinda begged and pleaded. But it was of no use. At last the magician felt sorry for Brinda and returned the rose. She came home and called her friends and let them wish whatever they wanted. Brinda was never selfish or greedy from that day on. She lived happily with the red rose and her friends.
