Hi Minal,
It is great that you have started this topic for this is a subject which I think of a lot. Being a person who is a student of foreign languages , I believe that learning a language really changes you. I agree that it does give you an "edge" above others especially in having a job or something but more important than the job factor , is the cultural factor that you have mentioned .
But , I would also like to stress on the fact that in India, there is a lot of academic pressure . So, I feel that the foreign language classes ought be an activity not a subject. Also, it should be optional and only if the child wishes to learn the language. The child should not be forced by any adult such as a parent or a teacher to learn foreign languages or else the pleasure of learning would be lost.
The last point , I would like to stress on is to ensure that you enjoy the activity and communicate with others. So get in touch with an association or find a pen-friend and have lots of fun.
I presume that you are a person who is interested in languages and perhaps learning a language , so , good luck!

The syllabus of the present school children is too vast to accomodate foreign languages.
To do this subject of Social Studies/history should be curtailed to accomodate for foreign language. Otherwise I am in favour.

Foreign languages should be taught in schools. Now a days we get lot of opportunities to work in abroad. But due to the lack of knowledge of the language we are not able to go for further studies. So it should be taught in schools. Then only we can go for jobs abroad.

I think there should not be schools teaching foreign languages beacause it helps us to realize our Indian culture more than the foreign one.

I agree that Foreign Language Coaching in Schools should be introduced as it improves their knowledge and even cut offs the language barriers between the countries. Also there is a scope for those countries for opening or expanding there business here. There would be more BPO's coming up on the language.

YES,THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE SHOULD BE THERE AS IT'S AN ABIDING LANGUAGE AND ALSO WE COME TO ABOUT WHAT THE LANGUAGE IS ALL ABOUT.LIKE IN OUR SCHOOLS WE HAVE FRENCH/SANSKRIT/GERMAN/SPANISH.SO IT'S EASY TO LEARN BUT WE SHOULD PUT OUR EFFORTS TO LEARN THAT LANGUAGE.I KNOW THAT IT'S EASY BUT WE NEED TO WORK HARD.AND IF WE GO FURTHER FOR STUDYING LIKE FRANCE OR SPAIN SO WE KNOW THAT LANGUAGE AND WE COMMUNICATE TO THOSE PEOPLE LIVING IN FRANCE AND KNOW ABOUT THEIR CULTURE,ETC.

I feel that there is absolutely nothing wrong in foreign language coaching in schools. We get tremendous amount of information on the culture, education, etc of different people all around the world. Students who want to study abroad will be able to communicate easily with people and learn more from them. Even tourists, officers, etc will get such advantages. Moreover I am sure it will be a great experience to learn the language of other countries too.

No I disagree with Minal because children have too much load on them of other subjects. By teaching forgien languages in school they will have more load on them. They will be very confused.

Yes, I do agree that Foreign language coaching in schools should be introduced as the children tend to learn some new language besides hindi and english. Also if they go to some other countries for further studies it will be easy for them to communicate with the people.

I mean that Foreign Language coaching in schools should be introduced, and should be made compulsary as it is an essential part of today's world. In this era (century) the educational councils should encourage foriegn language studies. Its a vital tool to learn other languages as it improves the mode of communication and understanding. Whether a student takes a profession of a traveller, sports man, a trader, doctor, teacher or what ever he wishes foreign language would be the complete tool to help and live in foriegn countries. You will not be tongue tied in front of others. Foreign Languages such as french, English, Hindi, Urdu, Spanish, German or Japanese would be highly beneficial for students. It would be a path for development of bright future.

I agree to it, because it is useful for children. They will know how to communicate with others in foreign languages. It will also be helpful for them, if they go to any foreign country. so, foreign language's coaching should be given in the schools.

Yes, I do agree with you Minal. Foreign language teaching should be introduced in schools. We just do not want to learn English and Hindi? It is interesting and fun to learn languages not used in India. In this way it is easy to go to schools and jobs out of India. This makes it easy to communicate with others. I do believe that WE SHOULD HAVE FOREIGN LANGUAGE INTRODUCED IN SCHOOLS!!!

I don't think teaching foreign languages in school is unnecessary but that should be made optional, as many students are not even able to study the present syllabus.

Minal, you have said the correct thing because if we happen to go abroad we will be able to communicate with foreigners too and will make a whole new lot of friends too. It is good to know a foreign language even if you are not going abroad. It will just increase our knowledge. We never know when a foreigner can come here. We will be able to communicate with any one who knows the language. We will know a variety of languages.

Foreign language coaching is very necessary in all schools. Atleast one important foreign language has to be included in the curriculum so that students are exposed to the linguistic culture of other nations. But learning foreign languages doesn't mean that only such languages have to be stressed in the schools because many students of many schools know properly the foreign languages but when we ask them to speak in their regional language or in the national language ie Hindi they are very bad at them. So students should first master their own languages and then only it is ok for them to think about learning other languages.

I believe that we should indeed have foreign languages in school. I am currently in high school, and I am in French 2. I think it's really hard but it makes me feel like I can relate to my heritage. It makes me feel like I have a break -away class. Next year I do plan on transferring into German [Deutsch] 1. All of my friends say it's alot of fun with Herr Blake! If I had a choice of a foreign language out of them all,it would definitely be Italian, because I am 50% italian. Well I thought I would just add my input! Thanks for listening!

I believe that we should not be required to take a foreign language in high school. I have A's in all my classes I have 7 classes all together and the only thing I have a C in is Spanish 2.

Yes, ofcourse. It should be there. It is highly beneficial especially for the ones who wants to go in business or jobs related to other languages. It also gives you more confidence. It is fun and stress you out. It keeps you away from the burden of studies.
