Kanhaiyalal Maneklal Munshi , popularly known as Kulapati Munshi was a many-sided genius. He was a lawyer, writer, freedom-fighter, administrator, constitution-maker, educationist and a champion of Indian culture.
He took part in the Salt Satyagraha in 1930 and was imprisoned for six months. In 1932 he was sentenced to two yearsí rigorous imprisonment for again defying the government. He was elected to the Bombay legislative Assembly in 1937 and appointed Home Minister in the Congress government that came to power there.
He founded the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, with the blessings of Gandhiji in November 1938.
After Independence he was Food and Agriculture Minister in Nehruís Cabinet and later served as Governor of Uttar Pradesh. Till his death in 1971, Kulapati Munshi devoted all his energy towards the building of the Bhavan into the premier cultural organization of the country.
His story is told in glorious image and colour in the 64-page graphic novel: Kulapati Munshi brought out by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan to commemorate the 125th anniversary year of its founder and 75 years of its existence.
