Sir Alec and Eric Bedser are identical twins. Sir Alec, a medium fast bowler, played 51 tests for England and claimed 236 wickets. Eric was an outstanding spinner at the first class level. They were both in the England team that toured Australia in 1946.
It is said that the two of them when still in school, tossed up to decide who would become a pace bowler and who would become a spinner. Sir Alec won and took up pace bowling.
During an off day, on that Australian tour of 1946, Sir Alec went on the lookout for a good barber in Sydney, and when he found one, had a haircut and informed Eric about it. A few minutes later, Eric walked into that saloon and asked that his hair be cut. The flummoxed barber said,“ Strike me, mate. I’ve just cut your bloody hair! ”
Eric replied, “ Yes, I know. It’s stuff that you put on it that made it grow so fast. ”
